The activists rushed to the spot after being alerted to the puppies by some locals. When they got to the spot, they saw the bitch walking around the shaft where her five pups were trapped.

Pradeep Nair, a member of the Animal Warriors Conservation Society, said they needed the help of some local workers to dig a bigger hole next to the manhole to reach the pups.

“We had to hire a few workers to dig a larger hole near the manhole, cut the iron bars below the surface, and then go down the drain to save the pups,” said Pradeep Nair.

He added, “I had to be quick because there wasn’t a lot of oxygen in the drain. The entire operation took over an hour.
