Dog Training Graduate Wants to Show You How Well-Behaved She is

By Claire Cornish

Usually this feature is referred to as the “dog of the week” but when it comes to the beautiful Miss Scarlett it is definitely a “dog of life”.

This carefree girl is everyone’s favorite, yet she’s spent her life hopping from place to place and never finding someone to give her the love and devotion she so desperately desires and deserves.

When Miss Scarlett arrived at the shelter, she became a co-worker and a favorite of the volunteers. She was also chosen as a temporary foster puppy by some families who wanted to foster a friendly, hassle-free dog for a month.

Being popular is great, but Miss Scarlett got tired of always being brought home by people who always intended to bring her back to the shelter after a while.

As gracious and kind and well-meaning they were, Miss Scarlett knew they were not “their people,” and each time their confidence would lose a little more strength.

During the summer, she was selected for a training program called Pawsitive Directions, which involves pairing approved prison inmates with rescue dogs in need. They even trained dogs for the victims of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas’ school.

The inmate becomes the dog handler and both learn to trust each other. Now Miss Scarlett completes training with an abundance of commands and talents and has almost all of the credits she needs for her Canine Good Citizen Certificate.

Now all she needs is a home. She is relaxed and low on energy, likes to play and run around, but she just as much enjoys sitting on the couch, taking a nap or taking you for a walk. She is house trained and commanded and would fit seamlessly into your life as if she had always been there.
